Getting sick is not usually something for which people are grateful. But Victoria Virginia Voos and Corey Alexander Buresch certainly are. “It seemed like illness, one way or another, kept our relationship progressing to the next level,” Ms. Voos said.
The two began chatting on the dating app WooPlus, which markets itself as “the dating app for curvy people.” On Nov. 9, 2022, Mr. Buresch sent Ms. Voos a virtual smile. “Because she’s so beautiful, I thought, ‘Why not?’” he said.
The two messaged and texted. Ms. Voos was anxious for him to hurry up and ask her out. “In the moment, I was like, ‘This guy is so slow.’ But it was only like two days later,” she said.
Ms. Voos and Mr. Buresch had their first date on Nov. 13 at Marieta’s, a Mexican restaurant in La Mesa, Calif. She was appreciative that he had saved her a parking spot.
“One of the things that really impressed me was how confident she is,” Mr. Buresch said. “I just gushed to my mom about how beautiful she was. I was swooning so hard.”
Two days later, on their second date, they saw the movie “Prey for the Devil.” “We weren’t impressed with the movie,” Ms. Voos said, “but it made for great arm and hand holding.”
