Nicole Ann Poplawsky and Kenneth Robert Shook Jr. were married Nov. 16 at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. The Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston, a Presbyterian minister, officiated.
Mrs. Shook, 35, is a sales executive in Manhattan at Gold Medal International, a fashion accessories company specializing in socks and cold weather accessories. She graduated from Montclair State University.
She is the daughter of Lilia J. Salisbury of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Michael M. Poplawsky of Bridgewater, N.J. The bride’s father is the manager at Advanced Power Equipment, a store in Martinsville, N.J. Her mother is an account manager at Richland Knowles Agency, an insurance firm in Summit, N.J.
Kenneth Shook Jr., 36, is a partner in Longman Lindsey, a Manhattan acoustical engineering consulting firm working mainly on construction projects. He graduated from Manhattan College in the Bronx.
He is the son of Kit Hulit of Swan Lake, N.Y., and Mr. Shook Sr. of Manhattan. The groom’s mother is a classical music radio program host for WJFF, a public radio station in Jeffersonville, N.Y. She retired as a resource specialist teacher at Kentwood Elementary School in Los Angeles. His father, who retired as an architect, worked on historic preservation projects at Wank Adams Slavin Associates in Manhattan.
The couple originally met in 2013 at a wedding — Ms. Poplawsky was a friend of the bride, and Mr. Shook, a friend of the groom. They shared a good-night kiss, but went their separate ways. In early 2015 they reconnected on the dating app Hinge.
