Glen Lee, an actor and inventor with a passion for cooking Chinese food, decided to try to make his home stove behave like a restaurant wok stove, with extra high heat concentrated at the base of a traditional round-bottom steel wok. He succeeded after many years and finally introduced the two-part gadget for gas stoves in 2019, with a curve-sided ring to focus the fire and a base to place over it to hold the pan. Originally the set came in a small and a medium size, for burners up to 3 3/4 inches in diameter. He has just introduced a large size for burners 4 to 5 1/2 inches. All the rings come with sets of legs; depending on the configuration of your burners and grates, setting them up securely can be tricky. To me it’s best if you cook with a wok frequently enough to want to keep one of these installed on a burner at all times.
