Darren Garrett Davis and Daniel Wade Sene are to be married June 2 at Portland White House, a bed-and-breakfast in Portland, Ore. Alyson Sullivan, a friend of the couple who became a Universal Life minister for the event, is to officiate. The singer Debbie Gibson, a friend of the couple, is to walk them down the aisle.
Mr. Davis (front), 50, is a comic book publisher in Portland. He publishes such titles as “Female Force,” “Tenth Muse,” and “The Misadventures of Adam West.” He graduated from California State University, Northridge.
He is a son of Dawn E. Davis of San Diego and Sheldon Davis of Newburg, Ore.
Mr. Sene, 46, manages Hale’s Restaurant & Lounge, owned by his mother, Deanna Hale, in Hillsboro, Ore. He is also a classically trained pianist and was until 2016 the executive director of the Paducah Symphony in Paducah, Ky. He studied piano performance at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.
He is a son of Ms. Hale of Beaverton, Ore., and Larry Sene of Warren, Ore.
The couple met at a gay bar in Portland in February 2018.
“I have these bionic ears and overheard Daniel talking to a girl and saying that he thought I was very cute,” Mr. Davis said. “I just kind of stood there soaking up the attention until I heard Daniel say to the girl that he had chatted with me on Tinder, so I ran off to look at the app, and sure enough, we had indeed spoken to each other a few weeks before.”
When Mr. Davis noticed that the app had given Mr. Sene’s current location as “50 feet away,” he decided to have a little fun and wrote Mr. Sene a note that read: “I think your friend is really pretty.”
Mr. Sene looked up immediately and began to laugh. “Of course Darren knew that I knew he was gay,” said Mr. Sene, who is divorced with four children. “But that’s Darren for you, he’s quite a character.”
Mr. Davis and Mr. Sene, who live 15 minutes from each other in Beaverton, spent some time together that night. They were soon “sort of seeing each other,” Mr. Davis said. “We were debating as to whether or not we should make it official and start dating exclusively,” he added. “We just couldn’t decide.”
So he asked Mr. Sene if he could bring in a real character to help make their decision. So Mr. Davis summoned his good friend, Alyson Sullivan, who starred in the role of the Yellow Power Ranger in “Power Rangers Wild Force,” a television series in the early 2000s.
“She gave her stamp of approval and we just took it from there,” Mr. Davis said of Ms. Sullivan, who is to appear in a new role as the couple’s wedding officiant.
“That’s what Power Rangers do,” Mr. Davis said, laughing. They come along when you need them most to save the day.”
