Bridal fashion designers, both seasoned veterans and newcomers, showcased Fall and Winter 2019 collections during Bridal Fashion Week, which was Oct. 4-7 in New York. This year, Ines Di Santo, Vera Wang and Inbal Dror departed from last season’s princess-inspired collections and embraced bold, intricately designed gowns that were as much art as bridal wear. On display were dramatic gowns with colorful floral details, bright shimmering embroidery and sultry, sheer paneled dresses. Here are some highlights of what we saw.
Flesh-toned gowns were all the rage, as seen, from left, in the Reem Acra, Vera Wang and Galia Lahav bridal collections.
Nude Hues
White is often synonymous with weddings. However, the designers Vera Wang and Reem Acra showcased nontraditional gowns in fleshy hues that appeal to the bride who wants to make her own traditions. Nude fabrics were paired with metallic gold embellishment and shimmering detailed beading for an extra touch of glamour.

Floral Explosion
Last season we saw subtle hints of floral details used as an accent. But this year the use of florals took center stage as gowns featuring elaborate blooms dominated the runway. The designers Ines Di Santo, Pronovias and Monique Lhuillier created wedding dresses that dripped in multicolored bold blooms.

Color Rush
In addition to the emergence of nude hues, gowns in soft shades of blue, pastel pink and even black cascaded down the runway. The designers Reem Acra and Ines Di Santo, both known for pushing the boundaries of bridal fashion, infused colors into their collection, made specifically for the bride who wants to make a powerful statement of originality and nonconformity.
A frosty blue dress and a black dramatic ballgown were just two of the many colorful gowns shown during the Ines Di Santo runway show.

There was no shortage of glitz and glamour this season, as seen, from left, in the gowns by the designers Theia, Inbal Dror and Berta.
Shimmering Confections
When it comes to sparkle, the gowns created in this season’s collections featured a healthy dose of shimmer and shine. Theia, Inbal Dror and Berta’s Fall 2019 collections featured dazzling creations adorned with intricate beading and sequin embellishments that created a megawatt beam of light in a sea of white gowns.

Short and Sweet
Fitting with the nontraditional theme of this year’s collections, Rime Arodaky, Amsale and Viktor & Rolf created short, leg bearing dresses that were both modern and vintage inspired. These chic, shorter dresses, ranging from flirty minis to elegant tea-lengths, can be worn to pre-wedding events like a bridal shower or engagement party or even a casual ceremony.
Collections for a Cause
Many bridal fashion leaders lent their collections to special causes this season. Rita Vinieris’s Fall 2019 collection presentation raised awareness to the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. A portion of the proceeds from this collection will be donated to Project Semicolon, a nonprofit organization that supports people with depression, addiction and thoughts of suicide. Other bridal designers and brands, including the Knot, Crate and Barrel and the designer Malia Mills, partnered with VOW, a new initiative aimed at ending the practice of child marriage globally. A portion of their proceeds will go toward this mission.
