Tegest Lois Saunders and Tyler Brandon Bighum were married Oct. 19 in Philadelphia. The Rev. Michael K. Bighum, the groom’s father and a Baptist minister, officiated at the Liberty View, an events space at the Independence Visitor Center.
Mrs. Bighum, 32, is a compliance officer in Manhattan for BNP Paribas, the French bank. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and received a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She is the daughter of Yeshiareg G. Medhin of Manhattan and the late Arthur W. Saunders. The bride’s father was a certified public accountant in Manhattan. Her mother is an assistant comptroller at Waterside Plaza, a residential and business complex in Manhattan.
Mr. Bighum, 30, is an administrative assistant at Mindshare, a marketing agency in Manhattan that is a unit of WPP, the British advertising agency. He is also a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in accounting at the City University of New York’s Hostos Community College in the Bronx.
He is also a son of Patricia Jameson Bighum, who lives in Philadelphia; the groom’s father lives in Marcus Hooks, Pa. The groom’s mother is an administrative assistant at Catch, a social-services organization in Philadelphia. His father is also the owner of Philly’s Finest, a barbershop in Philadelphia.
The couple met in 2014 at the Made in America music festival in Philadelphia, when Mr. Bighum asked Ms. Saunders, “Do I know you from somewhere?” Ms. Saunders thought he might, and they struck up a conversation. (They didn’t know each other.) A few months later, they had their first date, in Manhattan.
