LadyLand, the queer music festival started by the nightlife impresario Ladyfag, took place on June 17 at the Brooklyn Mirage. The massive space throbbed with health goths sporting torn mesh, Day-Glo ravers clacking plastic beaded jewelry, shirtless circuit boys clenching their square jaws and the occasional fetishists shaking their exposed buttocks.
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater celebrated 10 years under its artistic director, Robert Battle, at Lincoln Center on June 16. A one-night-only performance was followed by dinner and, of course, dancing.
Also that night, the Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, Pharrell Williams and others at its 51st-annual awards gala, held at the New York Marriott Marquis hotel. Lil Nas X, who showed up in long blond curls and a futuristic black ensemble by Goom Heo, was also honored.
