Take Marcus Samuelsson along with you into the kitchen or even on the subway. The chef and restaurateur, who is based in Harlem, has a new audio cookbook that incorporates the neighborhood and his flagship restaurant, Red Rooster Harlem, with stops in your home kitchen to whip up some peanut-bacon pork chops, fish in banana leaves and a Bloody Rooster cocktail. Mr. Samuelsson teams up with personalities like the writers Jelani Cobb and Dr. Jessica B. Harris to cook, with jazz and gospel in the background. The narrative covers the history of Harlem and changes in the area: “It gives people a new way to experience the community,” Mr. Samuelsson said. It comes with a digital copy of the recipes.
“Our Harlem: Seven Days of Music, Cooking and Soul at the Red Rooster” by Marcus Samuelsson, $29.95, audible.com.
