Rebecca Jeanne Schapiro and Jeffrey Ian Sarnat were married Aug. 3 at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif. Margot L. Langsdorf, a friend of the couple who became affiliated with American Marriage Ministries for the occasion, officiated.
Ms. Schapiro, 38, is a San Francisco-based adviser for financial technology and consumer health technology start-up companies. She graduated from Tufts, and received an M.B.A. from Stanford. Until 2017, she was a chair of the leadership council for Year Up Bay Area in San Francisco, a nonprofit yearlong program that provides training and internship placement for young adults not on a career or higher education path.
She is a daughter of Jo Ann Schapiro and George A. Schapiro of Hillsborough, Calif. The bride’s father, who is retired, worked there as the executive vice president of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation based in Rochester, Minn. He is on the board of the Farkas Center for the Study of the Holocaust in Catholic Schools in San Francisco. Her mother is an independent education specialist in Hillsborough tutoring children and helping them cope with learning disabilities.
Mr. Sarnat, 39, is a software developer at Stripe, a financial technology company in San Francisco. He graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University, and received a master’s degree and Ph.D. in computer science focusing on programming languages at Yale.
He is the son of Diane Markle Sarnat and Dr. William S. Sarnat of Granger, Ind. The groom’s mother retired as an early childhood education teacher focusing on music and movement at Bridges School, a private preschool in Granger. She volunteers as a Holocaust educator at schools and religious institutions in the Greater South Bend area. His father retired as a cardiologist at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind., and continues to work as a clinical associate professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, South Bend campus.
The couple connected in summer 2016 through the dating app Bumble.
