Rebecca Elizabeth Carlson and Nikhil Jayant Bhat were married Aug. 24 at Stone Mill at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. Meera Bhat, the groom’s sister who became a Universal Life minister for the event, officiated.
Ms. Carlson, 29, is the associate director of strategy for the College Board, the education nonprofit organization with headquarters in Manhattan. She began her career as a corps member with Teach for America in Charlotte, N.C., after graduating from American University.
She is the daughter of Laurie E. Carlson of Vista, Calif., and Clifford W. Carlson of Meridian, Idaho. The bride’s mother is a second-grade teacher at Richland Elementary School in San Marcos, Calif. Her father is a senior client delivery manager at Synoptek, an internet technology services and management company in Boise, Idaho.
Mr. Bhat, 34, is a managing director at Vestar Capital Partners, a private equity firm in Manhattan. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and received an M.B.A. from Stanford.
He is the son of Anuradha Bhat of Corona, Calif. and Jayant D. Bhat of Brighton, Mich. The groom’s mother retired as a microbiologist for Quest Diagnostics, a diagnostic testing laboratory, in Auburn Hills, Mich. His father retired as a urological surgeon in private practice at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Mich.
The couple met in 2014 on the dating app Hinge. Their first date was at Upright Brew House, a restaurant in Manhattan.
