Patricia Hurtado de Mendoza and Alexis Augusto Abril were married Oct. 25 at the Islamorada Fish Company, an events space in Islamorada, Fla. The Rev. Steve Vetter, a Baptist minister, officiated.
Mrs. Abril, 47, is the press secretary to Carlos Giménez, the mayor of Miami-Dade County. She was previously a television news reporter at both Univision and Telemundo Miami affiliates. She graduated from the University of Florida.
She is a daughter of Silvia Hurtado de Mendoza and Pedro Hurtado de Mendoza of Weston, Fla. The bride’s father is retired as a sales executive at Mercedes-Benz of North America in Coral Gables, Fla. Her mother retired as a guidance counselor with the Miami Dade public schools.
Mr. Abril, 48, is an independent Miami-based learning and development executive who offers mentoring and sales executive courses for individuals within the financial technology industry. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and received a master’s degree in education at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla.
He is a son of Olga G. Abril of Sanford, Fla., and Dr. Alexis A. Abril of Miami. The groom’s father is a general and vascular surgeon at Coral Gables Hospital. His mother was a stay-at-home parent.
The couple met in 1989 as high school students in Miami, when the bride, then 16, attended Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, an all-girls school, and the groom, then 17, went to Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, which was all boys.
