Olive Remington Stohlman and Christopher Michael Bettis were married Nov. 17 at the Mambo Room Cultural Event Center in Norfolk, Va. Melissa Charnes Gibson, a friend of the couple, was granted a one-time civil celebrant authorization from the Henrico County Circuit Court to officiate.
Ms. Stohlman, 34, is a research aerospace engineer at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and received a doctorate in aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
The bride is the daughter of Katharine M. Stohlman and Thomas J. Stohlman of Cambridge, Mass. The bride’s father is a residential architect in private practice in Cambridge and a tour guide at the Boston Public Library. Her mother is a vice president of Corvia Medical, a medical device company in Tewksbury, Mass.
Mr. Bettis, 33, is a public defender at the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Norfolk, Va. He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, and received a law degree from William and Mary.
The groom is the son of Karin K. Bettis and Michael S. Bettis of Baldwin City, Kan. The groom’s mother is a reading aid at Madison Elementary in Gardner, Kan. His father works in Baldwin City as a manager of national accounts for Yusen Logistics, a transportation company headquartered in Tokyo.
The couple met in 2014 through OkCupid.
