Angel’s Share, the influential Japanese-style speakeasy that closed in March after nearly 30 years in the same East Village space, will return for another flight this summer.
The bar, considered a pioneer in the craft-cocktail movement, will stage a pop-up inside the Hotel Eventi, on the Avenue of the Americas near 30th Street, beginning June 1 and running through early September. As in the bar’s previous location, the pop-up, called Angel’s Share at Hotel Eventi, will be hidden. It occupies a small space behind an unmarked door off the hotel’s cocktail lounge the Vine.
The pop-up aims to make fans of the East Village bar feel at home. Some of the old tables and chairs will be in use, and the menu will include several cocktails served at the original. A high-resolution image of the large mural of cherubs that hung above the former bar has been broken up into pieces and artistically arranged along a bookcase.
And the same staff that worked at Angel’s Share will be at the pop-up. Erina Yoshida, who has taken over ownership of the bar from her father, the restaurateur Tony Yoshida, said she has been able to keep nearly the entire bar team together since the closing.
As with the former bar, which famously had a set of rules for customers, parties larger than four will not be allowed and entry is first-come, first-served.
“We were kind of taken aback when we heard they were closing,” said Chris Lauber, the senior director of operations for LTH, which runs the food and beverage outlets at the hotel. He heard from a mutual friend that the bar was looking for a temporary home. “We had the perfect space for them.”
The hotel plans to eventually open its own speakeasy in the same space. And Ms. Yoshida said she intends to reopen Angel’s Share in a permanent location sometime this fall.
Angel’s Share at Hotel Eventi, 851 Avenue of the Americas, New York, no phone. It will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays 6 p.m. to midnight.
