If you’re having dinner at Gramercy Tavern or Union Square Cafe, you might want to save room for dessert at Caffè Panna nearby. Hallie Meyer — whose father, Danny Meyer, owns both restaurants — is ready with an affogato sundae with crunchies, drizzles and cream at this, her new ice cream parlor. The neatly tiled corner store is Ms. Meyer’s first independent foray into the dining world. A coffee bar to one side dispenses affogatos opposite the ice cream counter, where five staple flavors and five rotating seasonal ones (like apricot-pistachio) are scooped; all are made fresh daily on the premises. Customers can taste before buying. An optional dollop of panna — Italian whipped cream served plain or inventively flavored with coffee or fruit — is available to top each portion.
