Molly Katherine Johnson and Paul McClintock Balmer were married Aug. 10 at House on Metolius, a private nature reserve and events space in Camp Sherman, Ore. John Beiers, an uncle of the bride who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion, officiated.
Ms. Johnson, 29, is an assistant and program associate for Meadow Fund, a philanthropic organization based in Santa Barbara, Calif., that focuses on serving vulnerable demographics and criminal justice reform. Ms. Johnson graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.
She is a daughter of Mary M. Johnson and Timothy A. Johnson of Portland, Ore. The bride’s father is the assistant general counsel for power marketing at the Bonneville Power Administration, a federal power marketing administration based in Portland. Her mother is a high school nurse at Lincoln High School and a nursing instructor at Oregon Health and Science University, both in Portland.
Mr. Balmer, also 29, is a third-year law student at the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif. Until 2017, Mr. Balmer worked as a legislative and campaign aide for Representative Earl Blumenauer, Democrat of Oregon.
He is the son of Mary L. McClintock and Tom A. Balmer of Portland. The groom’s mother is the director of education programs at the Oregon Community Foundation in Portland. The groom’s father is an associate justice of the Oregon Supreme Court in Salem, where he served as chief justice until 2018.
The couple met in 2004 during their freshman year at Grant High School in Portland and reconnected on a trip to the Oregon coast with friends from high school in 2012. They began dating the next year.
