Unlike most humans, dogs love without question or condition. On this week’s Modern Love podcast, Ethan Hawke reads “Learning Humanity From Dogs,” a story about how the affection of two 150-pound St. Bernards transforms an alcoholic’s life.
Now sober, remarried and a father of twins, the author of the essay, Pauls Toutonghi, lives in Portland, Ore., where he teaches creative writing at Lewis and Clark College.
Mr. Hawke, known primarily for his acting, is the director and co-writer of the recent film “Blaze,” a biopic about the country singer-songwriter, Blaze Foley. Stay tuned after the reading for reflections from Mr. Hawke, Mr. Toutonghi and the Modern Love editor Daniel Jones.
