Miranda Joseph and Erin Leigh Durban were married Oct. 19 at the Campus Club at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Rabbi Michael Adam Latz officiated.
Dr. Joseph (left), 56, is the chairwoman of the gender, women and sexuality studies department at the University of Minnesota. She is also the author of “Against the Romance of Community” (University of Minnesota Press, 2002) and “Debt to Society: Accounting for Life Under Capitalism” (University of Minnesota Press, 2014). She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received a doctoral degree in modern thought and literature from Stanford.
She is a daughter of Ellen R. Joseph and Lawrence M. Joseph of Manhattan. Her father, who is retired, was a labor and employment lawyer in the Morristown, N.J., office of AT&T, and was until June a director of Global Kids, an organization in Manhattan that helps high school students from underserved neighborhoods develop a broader perspective on the world. Her mother retired as a partner in Kaye Scholer, the Manhattan law firm, and is now a director of Poets & Writers, an organization in Manhattan that provides resources and support to writers.
Dr. Durban, 36, is an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Minnesota. She graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver and received a doctoral degree in gender and women’s studies from the University of Arizona.
She is a daughter of Robert J. Durban of Tucson, Ariz., and the stepdaughter of Patricia Peluso of Brooklyn. The bride’s father is the owner of Durban Transport Services, a trucking company in Tucson. Her stepmother retired in July as a sales representative in the Westminster, Colo., store of the Shane Company, a jewelry concern.
Dr. Durban’s previous marriage ended in divorce.
The couple met in 2006 in Tucson at the University of Arizona, where Dr. Joseph was a member of the faculty and Dr. Durban was a graduate student. About three years ago, their professional relationship took a romantic turn.
