Miki Paul and James Easley Edmunds were married July 15 at the Brazilian Room at Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, Calif. Robert E. Paul, the brother of the bride, officiated, having become a Universal Life minister for the occasion.
Dr. Paul, 71, is a psychologist in private practice in Benicia, Calif. She graduated from Indiana University, received a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Tennessee, and received a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. She also is a mandolin player, and performs with the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra. The bride is also the facilitator for a national telephone support group for the caregivers of people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal degeneration.
She is the daughter of the late Edythe M. Paul and the late E. Martin Paul, who lived in Boca Raton, Fla. Her father was a podiatrist in private practice in Canton, Ohio, and her mother was a stay-at-home parent.
Mr. Edmunds, 80, retired as an associate engineer in the district office in Oakland, Calif., of the California Department of Transportation. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute.
He is a son of the late Louise Lenzie Edmunds and the late William W. Edmunds, who lived in Oxon Hill, Md. The groom’s mother, a registered nurse, was a stay-at-home parent. His father retired as the vice president and general manager of the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland, Md.
He is a direct descendant of Corporal Domingo Alviso, a member of the De Anza Party Expedition, which arrived in what is now San Francisco in 1776.
A previous marriage of the bride ended in divorce, and she was a widow. The groom was a widower.
The couple met in 2017 at a picnic of a Porsche car club at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. An acquaintance of Dr. Paul who was a friend of Mr. Edmunds said to them: “You are a widow and you are a widower. You should meet each other.” At the time, she had a red 1984 911 Carrera and he had both a light yellow 1973 911 Carrera T and a black 2007 911 Carrera.
