Michelle Elizabeth Howell and Maxwell Israel Unterhalter were married Oct. 12 in an outdoor ceremony at Swank Farms in Loxahatchee, Fla. Michael Tannenbaum, a friend of the couple and a Universal Life minister, officiated.
The bride, 24, is a professional runner based in Arlington, Va. She is a member of the District Track Club in Washington. She also coaches cross-country and track teams at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. She was a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association all-American in the 800 meters, which she still runs professionally. In February 2020, she is to begin running the 1,500 meters in preparation for the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.
She graduated from Jacksonville University, from which she also received an M.B.A.
She is a daughter of Tammy A. Howell and James D. Howell of Royal Palm Beach, Fla. The bride’s father is a self-employed physical therapy assistant with a focus on geriatric orthopedics. Her mother is an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist serving veterans at the West Palm Beach, Fla., VA Medical Center.
The groom, 26, is a second-year law student at Georgetown. He graduated from Union College.
He is a son of Heidi Swartz and Marc K. Unterhalter of Wellington, Fla. The groom’s mother is a self-employed accounting consultant in Wellington. His father is the chief executive of Lion Country Safari, an animal park in Loxahatchee.
The couple met eight years ago at high school cross-country and track meets in Palm Beach County, Fla.
