Marcus Jay Markle and Nathan Scott Willis were married Sept. 2 at the Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast along the Pacific Coast in Yachats, Ore. Christopher Borniger, a friend of the couple and a Universal Life minister, officiated.
Until Aug. 23, Mr. Markle (left), 33, was a communications manager at Geffen Academy, an elementary and high school at the University of California, Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, from which he also received a master’s degree in education.
He is the son of Sandra E. Markle of Los Angeles, and the late Mark W. Markle.
Mr. Willis, 40, is a senior staff and weekend editor at the Washington bureau of The New York Times. He graduated with highest distinction from the University of Kansas.
He is a son of Anne L. Willis and Rodney D. Willis of Osage City, Kan.
The couple were introduce in July 2013 through the OkCupid dating app, and a month later met at Shaw’s Tavern in Washington. Three years later, Mr. Markle proposed over dinner at the tavern with twisty tie rings to mark the occasion, to which Mr. Willis responded by pulling out two rings of tungsten carbide he had at the ready for a proposal he had planned for later that evening.
