Lily Sarah Brynes and Samson Travis Walla were married June 22 at Troutbeck, an events space in Amenia, N.Y. Victor F. Imbimbo, who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion and is the groom’s stepfather, officiated, incorporating Jewish traditions.
The couple each graduated from George Washington University, he summa cum laude.
Mrs. Walla, 28, is the founder and chief executive of Spots NYC, a personalized mini cupcake company in Manhattan.
She is a daughter of Karen Binder-Brynes of Manhattan and Gary S. Brynes of Williamsburg, Va.; and a stepdaughter of Paul Neuman and Abby Brynes. The bride’s father retired as a residential broker at the Corcoran Group in Manhattan. Her mother is a psychologist in private practice in Manhattan. Her stepfather is the president of Neuman’s Kitchen, a caterer there, and the chairman of the Hope Program based in Brooklyn, which provides training, jobs, and career guidance in the sustainable sector to low-income New Yorkers.
Mr. Walla, 30, is a strategic operations manager in Manhattan at Uber, a transportation technology company.
He is the son of Jill Sussman and Mr. Imbimbo of Greenwich, Conn. The groom’s mother is a private art dealer in Manhattan. His stepfather is the president and the chief executive of Caring Today in Greenwich, a provider of support to family caregivers. He is on the board of the School for Field Studies in Beverly, Mass., a study abroad program for college students focusing on environmental field-based research.
The couple were introduced in February 2013 through the dating app Tinder after a locational glitch. Ms. Brynes was finishing up college in Washington, while Mr. Walla, who had been there for President Barack Obama’s inauguration, was back in Manhattan, but still being picked up as being in Washington. A week later, while Ms. Brynes visited Manhattan for the weekend, they managed to have a first date at the Commodore, known for its fried chicken, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and found they had many mutual friends from college and high school, and quickly began dating.
