Lauren Charlene Ferguson and Alex John Basso were married Aug. 17 in Manhattan. Emily K. Mitchell, a friend of the couple who became a Universal Life minister for this event, officiated at Cop Cot, a gazebo in Central Park.
Mx. Ferguson, 25, is the coordinator for events and diversity programs, specializing in L.G.B.T.Q. issues, at the City University of New York’s Kingsborough College in Brooklyn. Mx. Ferguson graduated from the University of Texas and received two bachelor’s degrees, one in art history and one in English honors. The bride is currently pursuing a master’s degree in women’s and gender studies at the C.U.N.Y. Graduate Center in Manhattan.
Mx. Ferguson is a child of Dewana Trent Ferguson and Mark J. Ferguson of Littleton, Colo.
Mr. Basso, also 25, is the film editor at Spot Savvy and Today’s Feature, both advertising agencies and commercial production companies in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. He graduated from the University of Texas.
He is the son of Andrea B. Furlong of Franklin, Tenn., and John S. Basso of Spring Hill, Tenn.
The couple met in 2010 on Facebook, through the deliberate introduction of a mutual friend, when they were both 16. They met in person the summer of that year when Mr. Basso was visiting their mutual friend in Texas. In 2012, when Mx. Ferguson visited Mr. Basso in Tennessee, the two fell in love.
