Laura Josephine Wells and Samuel Foster Murray were married June 28 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in South Bend, Ind. The Rev. Justin Brophy, a Roman Catholic priest, performed the ceremony.
Mrs. Murray, 27, is studying for a Ph.D. in mathematics at Notre Dame. She graduated from Providence College.
She is a daughter of Carol M. Wells and Gregory M. Wells of Meridian, Idaho. The bride’s father is an applications engineer at ASML, a supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in Boise, Idaho. Her mother was a stay-at-home parent.
Dr. Murray, 29, is a postdoctoral research fellow in the psychology and neuroscience department at Duke, where he studies mind-wandering, memory and vigilance. He graduated from Wake Forest and received a Ph.D. in philosophy from Notre Dame.
He is the son of Kirsten Murray and Michael Murray of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The groom’s mother, who works remotely from home, is the director of development and public relations for Creative Health Services, an organization based in Pottstown, Pa., that provides behavioral health care. His father is the president and chief executive of the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, a philanthropical organization that provides financial assistance to educational, religious, cultural, and scientific institutions.
The couple met while playing intramural flag football at Notre Dame.
