Laura Johanna Sirico and Michael Jack Schanne are to be married Sept. 1 in a self-uniting ceremony at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove in Audubon, Pa. The ceremony is to be led by Kathleen C. Sirico, the bride’s sister.
Ms. Sirico, 31, is the prevention specialist providing mental health support to students in five elementary schools in the Downingtown Area School District in Pennsylvania. She graduated cum laude from Skidmore College, and received a Master of Social Work and a Master of Education in human sexuality from Widener University.
She is a daughter of Patricia T. Brennan of Wayne, Pa., and the late Louis J. Sirico Jr. Her mother retired as a probate and estate planning lawyer in private practice in West Chester, Pa. The bride’s father was a professor of law and the director of the legal writing program at the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law.
Her maternal grandfather, Matthew J. Brennan, was the chief meteorologist at Ellsworth Station in Antarctica from 1957 to 1959; Mount Brennan there was named for him.
Mr. Schanne, 26, who goes by M J, is based in King of Prussia, Pa., as a web developer for clients of Capgemini, a Paris-based professional services consulting company. He graduated with a degree in accounting and management information systems from Villanova.
He is a son of Susan Negrey and Dr. Francis J. Schanne of Berwyn, Pa. The groom’s mother owns Coach2Achieve, an executive and career coaching firm there. His father, a urologist, is the medical director of urology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia.
The couple met in 2010 as counselors at EFS summer camp in Newtown Square, Pa. Ms. Sirico recalled Mr. Schanne did not mind singing “Little Bunny Foo-Foo” 100 times a day and playing the camp superhero Mr. Respectacular. He said she was a bit more serious, “really excellent with one on one and acting in a leadership role.” They kept in touch as friends over the years, and during spring 2014 began spending more time together.
