Kathryn Julia Cullinane and Daniel Roger Arnold were married Dec. 14 at Tantalus Estate Vineyard on Waiheke Island in Auckland, New Zealand. Madeleine Fay, an independent celebrant, officiated.
Ms. Cullinane, 32, works in New York as a senior product designer at NYT Cooking, the cooking app at The New York Times. Until April, she was a senior visual designer on the Tips app at Apple in Cupertino, Calif. She graduated with first class honors with a bachelor’s degree in art and design from Auckland University of Technology, as well as a bachelor of arts in Italian and art history from the University of Auckland.
She is a daughter of Deborah J. Cullinane and Jonothan D. Cullinane of Auckland. The bride’s father works there as a postman for New Zealand Post, and is the author of a novel, “Red Herring” (HarperCollins). Her mother is the head of the art department and a design teacher at St. Cuthbert’s College, an independent private boarding and day school for girls in Auckland.
Mr. Arnold, 31, is a health economist at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health and a visiting scholar at Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at N.Y.U. He graduated from Cornell and received a master’s degree and Ph.D. in economics from University of California, Santa Barbara.
He is a son of Sheila K. Arnold and Roger A. Arnold of San Diego. The groom’s father is a professor of economics at California State University, San Marcos. His mother, a stay-at-home parent, worked as an assistant controller at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the 1980s.
After the couple were introduced in 2017 through the dating app Bumble, they planned to meet at a wine bar in San Francisco. Each showed up early for the date, and decided to hang out at Dog Eared Books across the way until the set time. At the shop Ms. Cullinane recognized Mr. Arnold from his online photo, and walked up to him. They then headed over to the wine bar together.
