Katherine Frances Hoots and David Gregory D’Alessandro were married Aug. 17 in Newton, Mass. The Rev. Charles J. Higgins performed the ceremony at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, where he is the pastor.
Mrs. D’Alessandro, 23, is a copywriter at Precision Effect, an advertising agency in Boston that specializes in medical technologies and therapies. She graduated from Vassar College and is studying for a master’s degree in English at Harvard’s Extension School.
She is the daughter of Jacqueline L. Studer and Brent F. Hoots of Falmouth, Me. The bride’s father is a risk and structured finance consultant, and provides insurance for goods that are transported internationally; he works in Falmouth. Her mother is the general counsel of Akili Interactive, a medical technology firm in Boston.
She is also a granddaughter of Betty Hoots and Gene Hoots, who were the founders of Burger King, a company in Mattoon, Ill., that was the defendant in a federal trademark lawsuit brought in 1968 by the nationwide chain of the same name. The courts ultimately decided that because the Hoots’s restaurant predated the chain’s move into Illinois, the family could continue to use the name in a 20-mile radius of Mattoon, while the chain, which is based in Florida, could not.
Mr. D’Alessandro, 27, is a software engineer at Hopper, an online travel agency in Cambridge, Mass. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. He is also a knight of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George, a Roman Catholic chivalric order concerned with traditional pieties and the promotion of Latin Mass.
He is the son of D. Beatty D’Alessandro of Duluth, Ga., and the late Catherine S. D’Alessandro. The groom’s mother, who had retired, was a director at the Graybar Family Foundation in Clayton, Mo., and was a stay-at-home parent. His father is an executive in residence at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business in Atlanta., and was until 2016 the chief financial officer at Univar Solutions, an industrial chemicals distributor in Downers Grove, Ill.
The couple met in 2017, after the bride’s brother, who was in a fraternity with the groom, suggested that the two go out. “We decided to meet for sushi in Cambridge and had a phenomenal date,” Mr. D’Alessandro said. “We started with sushi, and ended at two in the morning. We started talking and just didn’t stop.”
