Katherine Marguerite Cunningham and John Christopher Tashjian were married Nov. 16 at St. Peter’s Historic Chapel in Beaufort, S.C. Msgr. Ronald Cellini officiated. On Nov. 17, the couple took part in a ceremony at Tidalholm, a historic home in Beaufort that was featured in the movie “The Big Chill” and that the couple have been renovating for the last two years. Msgr. Cellini also led that ceremony.
Mrs. Tashjian, 35, is an executive recruiter at the Strategic Group, a marketing firm in New York that represents lifestyle brands. She graduated from the College of Charleston and holds a master’s degree in occupational therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina.
She is the daughter of Mary C. Cunningham and Jack R. Cunningham of Beaufort. The bride’s father is a senior vice president and the resident director of Merrill Lynch’s Beaufort office. Her mother retired as a home economics high school teacher in the Beaufort County School District.
Mr. Tashjian, 48, is a founding partner in Centurion Real Estate Partners, which invests in commercial real estate and develops residential condominium properties in New York City. He graduated magna cum Laude from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. He is also a board member of both the Centurion Foundation, a New York-based charity dedicated to law enforcement, and the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation.
He is a son of Evelyn Tashjian Ambrose of Mahwah, N.J., and the late Gary R. Tashjian. The groom’s mother retired as a nurse practitioner in the student health center at the Newark campus of Rutgers University. His father was a member of the New York Stock Exchange and a partner in Hertzfeld & Stern, a former trading firm in New York. The groom is also the stepson of the late Robert Ambrose, who worked in the New York office of K&L Gates, an law firm.
The couple first met in 2007 at an event that Mr. Tashjian was hosting for the AGBU Internship Program, an organization that provides corporate internships and housing in New York City for Armenian college students. They didn’t speak much at the event, but did so a year later when they ran into each other at the Kentucky Derby. They stayed in touch and began dating in May 2015.
