Kaitlin Mary Oujo and Niels Peter Lesniewski were married Oct. 12. The Rev. Rebekah A. Savage, a Unitarian Universalist minister, performed the ceremony at All Souls Church in Washington.
Ms. Oujo, 30, is a foreign-affairs specialist in Washington, working on nonproliferation issues, at the Energy Department’s National Nuclear Security Administration. She graduated cum laude from George Washington University and received a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia.
She is the daughter of Eileen Oujo and Jack D. Oujo of Sea Girt, N.J. The bride’s father was a minor-league baseball umpire from 1981 to 1989, and now owns a wealth management and certified public accounting firm, bearing his name, in Wall, N.J. Her mother oversees special projects and estate administration at her husband’s firm, and was a paralegal from 1983 to 1993 in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office in Trenton.
Mr. Lesniewski, 34, is the senior Senate reporter at Roll Call, a newspaper and website in Washington that covers Congress and politics. He graduated magna cum laude from Hamilton College.
He is the son of Marilyn Perkins Buck of Pawcatuck, Conn., and Paul Lesniewski of Stonington, Conn. The groom’s mother is a self-employed bookkeeper. His father retired as the superintendent of the Stonington Cemetery Association, and had been the assistant chief of the Stonington Borough Fire Department, a volunteer organization.
The couple met at a large house party in Washington in the summer of 2015, when the friend she was with asked Mr. Lesniewski to take a picture of the two of them. “We spent the whole rest of the night talking to each other — three hours — and he walked me home,” she said. The couple had their first date a few days later, also in Washington.
