Dr. Julia Han Ding and Dr. Henry Fong were married June 29 at Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden in Pasadena, Calif. Norman Alexander, a Universal Life minister, officiated.
Dr. Ding, 30, recently completed an anesthesiology residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, where she was selected as a chief resident. In August, she is to begin a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas and received a medical degree with distinction from the Chicago Medical School.
She is a daughter of Jianying Peng and George Y.G. Ding of Naperville, Ill. The bride’s father works in Beijing as a business development executive at SenseTime, a computer vision and artificial intelligence technology company based in Hong Kong. The bride’s mother is a computer programmer for Molex, which makes connectors for electrical and fiber optic equipment based in Lisle, Ill.
Dr. Fong, 32, is a research scientist for SRI International, a technology incubator in Menlo Park, Calif. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.
He is the son of the late Fanny J .F. Fong and the late Kim S. Fong, who lived in Los Angeles. The groom’s mother was a seamstress in Rosemead, Calif. His father was a chef at Big 3 Seafood Restaurant in Alhambra, Calif.
The couple met in 2012 through OkCupid in Los Angeles.
