Jenna Marie Gilligan and Michael Broderick Spencer were married June 8 at the Lyman Estate in Waltham, Mass. Justin Broderick, an uncle of the groom who received permission from Massachusetts to solemnize the marriage, officiated.
The bride, 30, is a director at Version 2.0 Communications, a public relations firm in Boston. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Scranton and received a master’s degree in publishing and writing from Emerson College.
She is the daughter of Lesley Lontos and Richard J Gilligan, Jr., of Forest Hills, Queens. The bride’s father is a business agent for UA Local Union No. 1, the Plumbers of New York City. Her mother, who works in Manhattan, is a vice president of Sompo International, a Japanese insurance company.
The groom, 34, is an English teacher at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School, a private high school in Waltham, Mass. He graduated from Vassar College and received a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of New Haven.
He is the son of Mary Broderick of East Lyme, Conn., and Rob Spencer of Mystic, Conn. The groom’s mother is a consultant for CABE Search Services, a search firm for school executives in Wethersfield, Conn. She is also the former president of the National School Boards Association. His father retired as a director at Pfizer in Groton, Conn.
The groom is the grandson of the late Vincent L. Broderick, who served as New York City police commissioner from June 1965 to February 1966. (The bride’s maternal grandfather, the late Andrew L. Lontos, was a sergeant with the department and was assigned to the Queens Task Force.)
The couple met through the dating website OkCupid in November 2014.
