Jeanine Celeste Pang and Brent David Parsons were married June 24 at San Francisco City Hall. Norm Dito, a deputy marriage commissioner, officiated. On June 8, Jeffrey J. Yu, a cousin of the bride, led the couple in their vows, with Jeff Parsons, a brother of the groom, participating at El Fenn, a private riad in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Ms. Pang, 35, is a senior creative director of concept and storytelling at Old Navy, a fashion retail company based in San Francisco. She is also a freelance journalist. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and received a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia.
She is a daughter of Jacqueline H. Chang and Shui-Hin Pang, both of Fremont, Calif. The bride’s father, who is retired, was a transportation engineer in Oakland, Calif., at the California Department Transportation, based in Sacramento, Calif. Her mother retired as the owner and an instructor at a Kumon learning center in Warm Springs, Calif.
Mr. Parsons, also 35, works in San Francisco as a postdoctoral research fellow focusing on scientific and clinical studies of visual processing at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute. He graduated from Vanderbilt, and received a Ph.D. in vision science from the University of California, Berkeley.
He is a son of Mary Lou Parsons and Michael G. Parsons of Newark, Calif. The groom’s mother is a flight attendant at Southwest Airlines, based in Oakland, Calif. His father, who is retired, worked as an engineer and a project manager in Cupertino, Calif., at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, a manufacturer of servers and mainframes.
The couple, who both grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, met in 2016 through the League dating app. On their first date, Mr. Parsons told Ms. Pang he would be leaving in a few months to work on a postdoctorate on time perception at the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste, Italy. They maintained a long-distance relationship for the next two years, during which they met up in places including Madagascar; Reykjavik, Iceland; Shanghai; and Paris. In 2018, they met in the Italian Alps, and then flew to Morocco, where Mr. Parsons proposed on the rooftop of El Fenn.
