After unveiling the first chapter of its fall 2024 collection in Paris, Hermès jumped across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City for part two last night—a first-ever for the house, which had never staged a runway show in the U.S. prior.
The city served as more than just the location for womenswear artistic director Nadège Vanhée’s “The Second Chapter”—its optimism and nonstop energy was the inspiration that fueled her “New York Rocabar” assortment full of urban ensembles and outerwear, from timeless leather trenches to vibrant red dresses. Guests, including Usher, Jenny Slate, and Lily Allen, took in the collection at Manhattan’s Pier 36, which overlooks the city’s East River and bridges to Brooklyn.
As summer fast approaches, Hermès looked to fall, with Anok Yai leading the pack of models parading down the runway in newsboy caps and a dreamy array of autumnal hues, an extension of the brand’s rich history with its signature earth-tone palette. According to the show notes, the pieces combined to create “a thoughtful jumble of functions, attitudes and looks,” which was made clear in the expert layering seen throughout.
Be it puffer coats tied around yellow striped miniskirts or red and blue turtlenecks worn under a belted gold jumpsuits, Vanhée played with textures and unexpected combinations to invite guests to look closer at all the intricate details.
No big night out in New York is complete without a good party though, and Hermès was sure to celebrate. At the subsequent after-party, Caroline Polachek performed onstage, along with Rahill and Honey Dijon. Some guests also moved outside to take in the city skyline from the Lower East Side pier.
Caviar, oysters, and plenty of drinks were served to cap off Hermès’ big debut stateside.
