There’s no party like a Chanel party. Free-flowing champagne, caviar-laden bites, wagyu beef, you name the trappings of a luxurious night out in New York City, and the house will deliver in droves (and star power). It helps when the location is perfect, too—the new
watches and fine jewelry flagship store on Fifth Avenue served as the ideal backdrop for last night’s opening fête. In the throes of awards season, Carey Mulligan, who’s nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars thanks to her role as Leonard Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montealegre in Maestro, traded red carpets for some harmless window shopping.
“Chanel was a favorite of Felicia’s, so it feels very fitting to be celebrating them tonight,” she tells ELLE.com. “I have been pining for a pair of the little Coco Crush huggie earrings—so classic and special enough for an event, but also something you can wear every day.” For her look, the actress chose a cream-colored tweed jacket and pants from the fall/winter 2021/2022 haute couture collection, and topped it off with the Eternal No.5 necklace, designed by fine jewelry creative director Patrice Léguereau exclusively for the opening. “As a mother of three, having a team of talented geniuses making you look nice feels like a holiday!” Mulligan says. See how she got ready, below.
