Dr. Helen Xiao Yang and Maxwell Livingston Meyer were married Nov. 30 at the Marriott resort on Ko Naka Yai, an island off the coast of Phuket, Thailand. Mark Angus Meyer, the brother of the groom and who became a Universal Life minister for the event, led a ceremony. The following week, the couple is to register their union with the Phuket amphur (a Thai district office).
The couple met at Harvard, from which both graduated cum laude.
Dr. Yang Meyer, 29, is an endodontist, and an associate at the Colorado Endodontic Group in Colorado Springs. She also received a degree in dentistry from Harvard, and received both a master’s degree in oral sciences and a certificate in endodontics from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The bride is the daughter of Qiuhong Zhang and Xiaobo Yang of Neenah, Wis. The bride’s father is an automotive engineer at the Oshkosh Corporation, a manufacturer of industrial and military vehicles in Oshkosh, Wis. Her mother is the Mandarin teacher at Notre Dame de la Baie Academy, a Roman Catholic high school in Green Bay, Wis.
Mr. Meyer, 29, is the chief executive and a founder of Masii, a Bangkok financial technology company that operates a website designed to help Thai people apply for and better understand banking products.
He is a son of Deborah A. Meyer and Clint G. Meyer of Spearfish, S.D. The groom’s parents own Spearfish Insurance Brokerage. The groom’s mother is also an associate broker, for residential and commercial properties, with Great Peaks Realty in Spearfish. His father is also a financial adviser in Spearfish, with Voya Financial Advisors, a Dutch wealth management company.
The bride and groom met in 2009 while running for positions with Harvard China Care, a college club that supports orphaned children in China. Both won their elections that spring, and they began working closely together.
