Grace Miao Cao and Elliott Charles Carter were married Dec. 4 at the Chelsea Old Town Hall in London. Rebecca Raybone, a registrant of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, officiated.
Mrs. Carter, 31, is an associate specializing in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions at Davis Polk & Wardwell, the Manhattan law firm, and is currently on secondment in London. She graduated from Duke and received both a law degree and an M.B.A. from Northwestern.
She is a daughter of Heli Chu and Jack Cao of Cary, N.C. The bride’s father is a senior systems administrator in Durham, N.C., for the Duke University Health System. Her mother is the president and founder of CE Academy, a Chinese-English bilingual charter school in Cary.
Mr. Carter, 29, is an investment analyst at HPS Investment Partners in London. He graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., and received an M.B.A. from the University of Cambridge, England.
He is a son of Trish Carter and Don Carter of Ottawa. The groom’s mother was the founder of the Pediatric Liver Foundation, a charity dedicated to increasing awareness for liver diseases and providing resources and support for families and children. His father retired as a broker at the Bank of Montreal in Ottawa.
The couple met through a dating app in 2018 while the bride was in London and the groom in Cambridge.
