Tama Matsuoka Wong — the forager par excellence, who works with Restaurant Daniel and has written a book about foraging — has introduced bottled sumac tea, her first product in the I Am a Weed line from Tama’s Wild Teas. The deep red pointed berry clusters of sumac, a plant native to the northeastern United States (and the Middle East), were used to make a beverage by the inhabitants of the region long before European settlers arrived. I Am a Weed Sumac Tea is light brown, refreshingly tart and judiciously sweetened with agave.
