A bakery chain from France, with more than 500 outlets, has arrived in New York. The chain, Marie Blachère bakery and cafe, makes its debut with a branch in Great Neck this week, and an outpost to open in Greenwich Village, at 301-303 Avenue of the Americas (Carmine Street), in early March. The company, which started 35 years ago as a market stall in Avignon, began opening bakeries in 2004 and takes particular pride in its baguettes. It bakes other items you’d expect, like croissants, brioches and fruit tarts, and some you might not, like muffins and doughnuts made strictly for the American market. Sandwiches and pizza are also served in the new large, airy store, with tables and a working bakery. As for why this New York suburb, Christophe Besnard, the international director, said: “The founder thought Great Neck had potential; there was nothing like this in Great Neck.”
