Faryl Wendy Ury and Benjamin Kaufman Sacks were married Aug. 1 at the Highlands Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif. Rabbi Carla Fenves officiated.
Ms. Ury, 35, is the director of communications working in the San Francisco office of Aurora, a self-driving car technology company based in Palo Alto, Calif. Until 2012, she was the press secretary and new media director for Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Democrat of New Hampshire. The bride graduated cum laude from Harvard and received a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern.
She is a daughter of Bonnie Ury of Lake Worth, Fla., and John Ury of Miami. The bride’s father retired as a financial consultant at Merrill Lynch in Coral Springs, Fla. Her mother, who was a stay-at-home parent, until the early 1980s taught English as a second language at Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Mr. Sacks, 34, graduated magna cum laude from N.Y.U., and received a master’s degree from the London School of Economics. He is a manager of strategic initiatives at the ride-sharing company Lyft based in San Francisco. He is on the board of Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It, a nonprofit organization based in New York that encourages acceptance, understanding and tolerance of those with cognitive or physical disabilities.
He is a son of Jane Kaufman and Kenneth Sacks of Barrington, R.I. His mother is a Latin teacher at Providence Country Day, a private school for Grades 6 to 12 in East Providence, R.I. His father is a professor of history and classics at Brown, where until 1998 he was the dean of the college.
In September 2016, after the couple started talking to each at a rooftop bar in San Francisco, and Mr. Sacks told Ms. Ury his name, she recalled thinking, “Wow, my initials are F.U. and his are B.S. — that has the makings of an excellent wedding hashtag.” She kept that to herself until after Mr. Sacks proposed last December. Instead of just one big wedding they decided to have seven celebrations, including one in Providence, R.I., Paris and Tiburon, Calif.
