Someone believes in their superpowers to remove dark circles and swelling, and someone says that this is complete nonsense and a waste of money. Let’s figure out what is actually true. How to use eye patches and how to choose the right product?
When it comes to the miraculous features of patches, it is important to understand the main thing – there are no miracles. The most common problem for those unhappy with eye patches is their own high expectations. Traces of chronic lack of sleep, violent parties or two liters of water drunk on an airplane cannot always be removed even by a surgeon’s scalpel, let alone small pieces of fabric soaked in cream.
If you look at things realistically, a little puffiness, traces of fatigue, fine lines and dullness of the skin will certainly diminish after using the correct eye patches (and faster than after using the cream). In general, this is a good and convenient express care ─ but that’s all.
How do they work
As a rule, patches are impregnated with a cosmetic composition with a high concentration of active substances, often as effective in saturation as powerful anti-aging or moisturizing serums. There is an enviable variety among the active components. Oils, vitamins and panthenol are used to restore and strengthen the skin. Antioxidants are used to fight wrinkles, peptides are used to increase skin elasticity, and chamomile, aloe and plantain extracts are used to soothe and relieve irritation.
Eye patches themselves are most often made from non-woven fabric or hydrogel – a jelly-like mass that already contains an incredible amount of useful substances, from the placenta to plant extracts.
What eye patches can you get?
As a rule, eye patches are classified according to their purpose:
moisturizing: quickly saturate tissues with moisture and a complex of vitamins. They are ideal for thin skin and visually smooth the wrinkle pattern.
smoothing: inhibit the transmission of nerve impulses and slightly block facial expressions, acting like Botox. The composition may contain collagen, colloidal gold, hyaluronic acid.
nourishing: these are more expensive patches with placenta, plant extracts, pearl powder and retinol, which are aimed at complex skin improvement.
regenerating and rejuvenating: they trigger the mechanisms of natural skin rejuvenation and maintain an optimal balance of all components. The formula contains all the achievements of modern science: peptides, coenzyme, collagen, extracts of caviar, algae and ginseng.
draining: used to relieve or reduce puffiness under the eyes. They need to be kept on the face longer than others (ideally, 20-30 minutes).
Refreshing liquid patches that eliminate puffiness and swelling. They gently care for the skin around the eyes, making it smooth and supple.
How to Use Eye Patches?
Everything is pretty simple. Cleanse the skin, open the package and apply an eye patch under the lower eyelid. You can improve the expected effect by massaging the area before that. Patches should be left on the skin for 15-20 minutes. In fact, you can walk with them (though not all the products allow it), but if there is a serious reason to lie down, it might be worth doing so.
Theoretically, they can remain on the face for the whole night, but there will not be much sense in this because they will finally give away everything useful that was in them in the allotted 20 minutes.
You need to remove the patches starting from the nose and towards the temples. Do not wash the face. Instead, remnants of the product can be driven into the skin with light patting movements.
