Fashion Month has just started, but the top trends of the season are already coming to light. Satin materials you haven’t worn since the ’90s, a twist on tie dye, plus the coat shape you’ll find yourself reaching for (and wishing you owned now) are just a few of the ones we’re seeing. Wintry Tie Dye
We saw this micro trend last season, but the psychedelic print is in full swing and leaving behind it’s summery association. To make it work for colder seasons, designers are cutting it in heavier fabrics. Think sweatshirts layered under puffers at Prabal Gurung, and the leather tie dye spotted at Area, one of the industry’s favorite indie brands.
Belted Tailoring
For a while it was all about the oversized suit trend, but this season designers are waist-ing away, cinching suits with coordinating belts like at Brock Collection and ADEAM.
Wool Duster Coats
We didn’t realize how short our outerwear was until we saw the Fall ’19 collections. Tory Burch, Ryan Roche, and others showed ankle-grazers, and we love the idea of added warmth. These coats aren’t your usual lightweight duster coats either. Instead, find them super structured and made of leather and wool.
Purple
Millennial pink might be the most overused color in MTA marketing campaigns, but purple is what everyone’s eyeing next fall. The range of hues are endless, so pick your poison: lavender with Cushnie or deep eggplant with Sies Marjan.
Feathers
Instead of feathers and fur weighing you down, designers are giving the texture a lighter touch. Dion Lee delicately edged his tops in a wispy feather trim, while Cushnie made a Mongolian fur coat that looks might blow away with a soft breeze.
Slinky Satin
It’s been a minute since satin was on the designer radar, but the luxury fabric is back in action at brands like Tom Ford and Brandon Maxwell. Test the silky look at your next formal event, or wear it as a button-down for the office.
Asymmetrical Off-Shoulder Necklines
If you’re so-so on both off-the-shoulder silhouettes and one-shoulder necklines, the latest trend is the ultimate compromise. Carolina Hererra’s slouchy, asymmetrical, and off-shoulder neckline is simultaneously disheveled and put together, making it the ideal party dress. The soft draping of this neckline playfully suggests a “Oh this old thing? I just threw it on!” vibe.
