Writing by hand seems to be increasingly obsolete, thanks to the urgency of everyday tasks and our reliance on cellphones, tablets and computers. At The Times, the trusty reporter’s notebook — the narrow spiral-bounds whipped out for quick interviews — is more often these days an electronic device.
One result of this shift? Worsening handwriting — based on a very unscientific sampling of my colleagues (and my own slow and rudimentary penmanship).
The Times is working on an article about adults who think their handwriting has deteriorated over time. If this is you, please share an example of something you wrote and later found difficult to read. It could be a grocery list, a Post-it reminder or even a letter.
