The past few weeks have been particularly busy for the sneaker world, as collaborations between legacy sports brands and luxury labels have been popping up left and right. First, Prada and Adidas unveiled its much-hyped about sneaker. Now, Air Jordan and Dior are entering the fray with its upcoming Air Dior shoe.
The Air Dior (official name: Air Jordan 1 High OG Dior) made its debut last night at the Dior Homme pre-fall 2020 runway show in Miami. The sneaker stood out among the collection’s layers of prints (snake, tropical, and Dior’s signature monogram) and bucket hats. Following the presentation, Dior Men’s artistic director, Kim Jones, revealed the first formal photo on his Instagram.
A year in the making, the AJ1 features an upper in a deep silver and white with hand-painted edges and Nike’s iconic swoosh emblazoned with the Dior monogram print. Its soles are transparent and have an Air Dior logo and the Jumpman wings on one foot and “Dior” on the other.
“I chose to collaborate with Jordan Brand because Christian Dior collaborated with the best American brands of his era,” Jones told WWD. “I love mixing together different worlds, different ideas — Dior and Jordan Brand are both emblematic of absolute excellence in their fields. To bring them together in this special collaboration is to propose something exciting and truly new.”
The brands have not yet revealed pricing for Air Dior or whether or not they’ll be available in women’s sizing, but the sneaker is expected to hit stores in April 2020.
