Dawn Mooney Digrius and Robert Francis Smith were married Sept. 14 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, Calif. The Rev. Dr. Twining F. Campbell III, a Presbyterian minister, performed the ceremony.
Mrs. Digrius Smith, 54, is an educational consultant based in Altadena, Calif. She focuses on science technology engineering and math. She holds the title of Ms. California America 2019 awarded by the Ms. America Pageant in Costa Mesa, Calif. She received an associate degree with high honors from Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, N.J. She graduated summa cum laude from Drew University, from which she also received a master’s degree in European intellectual history and a Ph.D. with distinction in the history of science focusing on the history of biology and evolutionary theory.
She is a daughter of Frances B. Mooney and William T. Mooney Sr. of Brea, Calif.
Mr. Smith, 55, is a camera operator for television, commercials and documentaries. He has worked on television series, including several episodes of the drama “How to Get Away With Murder” and the comedy “Speechless,” both on ABC, as well as “American Ninja Warrior” on NBC. He has also worked as a cinematographer on independent films including “Skills Like This,” a 2007 comedy. He graduated from the University of Denver.
He is the son of the late Katherine P. Trojanowski Smith and the late Stuart Smith, who lived in Aurora, Colo.
The bride’s previous marriage ended in divorce, as did the groom’s.
The couple were introduced in November 2014 through the Match.com dating app, and soon met at Cha-Cha’s Latin Kitchen, a Mexican restaurant in Brea. In August 2016, Mrs. Digrius Smith found out just how serious Mr. Smith really was about her at a taping of the “The Late Show With Steven Colbert.” The warm-up act asked him if he planned to marry her. When he said yes, audience members responded with awwws and cheers. He proposed two years later.
