Carly Jill Popofsky and Nicholas Malino Joseph were married Sept. 21 at the weekend home of the groom’s parents, in Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman officiated.
Mrs. Joseph, 33, is the vice president for marketing at Kwiat, a New York diamond jewelry business. She graduated from Cornell.
She is a daughter of Jodi Perlmuth Popofsky and Garry B. Popofsky, both of New York. The bride’s father is the director for risk advisory services at Kyriba, a financial software firm; he works in New York. Her mother is the associate executive director for the Northeast region of American Friends of the Hebrew University, which is in New York and provides support to the Jerusalem school.
Mr. Joseph, 32, is a labor and employment associate at Davis & Gilbert, a New York law firm. He also graduated from Cornell, though the two didn’t know each other while they were there. He received a law degree magna cum laude from N.Y.U.
He is the son of Elizabeth H. Scheuer and Peter A. Joseph of New York. The groom’s mother is a volunteer design guide at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. His father is the chairman of Trenton Biogas, an organics recycling-to-energy business in Trenton, and was until 2016 the chairman of the Israel Policy Forum, a New York group that promotes a two-state solution for Israel’s security. The groom’s parents are also directors of the Marlene Meyerson Jewish Community Center in New York.
The groom is also a grandson of James H. Scheuer, who lived in Washington and was a Democrat who served 13 terms in the United States House of Representatives, representing parts of the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Nassau County.
Though the couple had met briefly a few years previously, at the birthday party of a mutual friend, their relationship began in 2017, after that same friend introduced them via text. For their first date, the two had cocktails at a bar in New York.
