Carla Rita Palma and Bryan Rodolfo Mendiola were married Aug. 31 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield, N.J. The Rev. John P. Alvarado, a Roman Catholic priest, performed the ceremony.
The bride and groom met in Washington while at Georgetown, from which each graduated, she summa cum laude. She also received a law degree magna cum laude as a public interest fellow.
Ms. Palma, 25, is an associate for Latham and Watkins, a law firm, in Washington.
She is a daughter of Filomeno Palma and Ivana Palma of South Plainfield. The bride’s father is an owner of Ciccio’s Pizza, a restaurant in South Plainfield. Her mother retired as a preschool teacher at Minnow Pond Preschool in Piscataway, N.J.
Mr. Mendiola, 26, is a business development professional, at TEKsystems, an internet technology services company in Washington. He is also a board member of One Tent Health, an organization that provides free H.I.V. screenings.
He is the son of Miriam J. Pla of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and Rodolfo A. Mendiola of Los Angeles. The groom’s mother is a stay-at-home parent who previously worked as a senior project engineer and scientist in Manhattan Beach, Calif., for the Hughes Aircraft Company, now Boeing. His father is a senior electrical engineer for Boeing in Manhattan Beach.
