The parties of Art Basel Miami Beach continued on Friday night, even after many of the V.I.P. collectors, big-name gallery owners and other art-world insiders left. In fact, the hard-core partying just got started for some.
Three for No. 5
Capping off a month’s worth of festivities for the 100th anniversary of Chanel No. 5, the French fashion house held three nights of parties at Art Basel: a drone light display over Faena beach, cocktails at a new Design District boutique and, on Friday, a 220-person dinner nearby.
Occasion: A dinner to celebrate a labyrinthine sculpture by Es Devlin commissioned for Chanel No. 5.
The Room: Chanel transformed a concrete plaza into an art forest with more than 1,000 trees and shrubs.
In Attendance: Pharrell Williams; Ms. Devlin; the musicians Rosalia, Joe Jonas and the three Haim sisters, Alanna, Este and Danielle; Venus Williams; and Karlie Kloss.
The Food: Tiny plates of hamachi crudo, roasted mushrooms, citrus poached lobster and branzino. Some guests doubled and tripled up.
Moment of the night: Rosalia performed five songs, dancing so enthusiastically to “Di Mi Nombre” that her microphone pack fell off. She recovered gracefully.
The Mood: “We were excited to see a lot of the classics — Calder, Picasso and Keith Haring — but there were a lot of NFTs,” said the Haim sisters, who were finishing each other’s sentences. Would they buy one? “We have no idea. Honestly, can someone teach us?”
Cardi B Does Miami
A day after Cardi B was named a creative director for Playboy, she showed up at Art Basel to promote Big Bunny, a new “luxury lifestyle” label.
Occasion: The Playboy mansion comes to Miami.
The Room: Casa Tua, a clubby Mediterranean-style villa in South Beach with lush gardens, cozy lounges and private dining rooms.
In Attendance: Cardi B; Offset; Charli XCX; Lizzo; Jeremy O. Harris, the playwright; and Julia Fox, the actress.
The Food: For the adventurous, cake and strawberries could be eaten off the nearly naked models in a downstairs dining room.
The Mood: Cardi B arrived around 12:30 a.m., wearing a sparkling Prada dress with her husband, Offset. After posing for a few photographs, she went upstairs, which was immediately closed off to other guests. At one point, Jaret Leto could be overheard in the garden talking about NFTs with friends.
