Andrea Ann Richter and Ashley Alexander Garry were married June 15 in Indianapolis. The Rev. Carlton Beever performed the ceremony at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, where he is the pastor.
Ms. Richter-Garry, 33, is the vice president for international engagement at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation in Indianapolis. From 2016 to 2017, she led an advance team for President Barack Obama. She graduated summa cum laude from Hamline University in St. Paul, and received a master’s degree in German and European studies from Georgetown.
She is a daughter of Catherine M. Richter and David M. Richter of Watertown, Minn. The bride’s father is a district sales manager for the Dairyland Seed Company, and is also a proprietor of Oak Lake Gardens, a vegetable, soy and corn farm in Watertown. Her mother is a substitute elementary and middle-school teacher in the Watertown-Mayer schools, also in Watertown.
Mr. Garry, 38, is a litigation counsel in Indianpolis at Eli Lilly & Company, the pharmaceutical company. He graduated from the Citadel and received a law degree from Cornell. From 2003 to 2006, he served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of first lieutenant, and receiving a Bronze Star medal after a deployment in Tikrit, Iraq. He then served in the Army Reserve until 2011, in Ithaca, N.Y., attaining the rank of captain.
He is the son of Kim A. Daniels of Orlando, Fla. She is an operations manager in Orlando for Wilsonart, a company that makes laminate and other composite materials used in countertops, furniture and other applications.
The groom’s previous marriage ended in divorce.
Ms. Richter and Mr. Garry met, re-met and finally commenced dating over a series of holidays, beginning with a house party in Washington on New Year’s Eve in 2014. They then lost touch, before reconnecting at another house party at the same house, on another holiday, July Fourth. But with their schedules both full, they didn’t end up having a first date, at a Washington restaurant, until a few days before Thanksgiving.
