Amy Everett Todd and Benjamin Shubik Sweeney were married Sept. 7 at Clark Lookout, a nature preserve in New London, N.H. Virginia S. Sweeney, a sister of the groom, officiated, having been ordained through American Marriage Ministries for the event.
The bride, 37, works in Washington as the manager of monitoring impact and learning for the Clean Cooking Alliance, an organization that works to make clean cooking accessible globally. She also manages City Garden, a local food co-op in Washington.
She graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and received a master’s degree in public policy from Duke.
She is the daughter of Nancy G. Todd and Cyrus Todd of Burlington, Mass. The bride’s father, who is retired, was an electrical engineer for Technimation, an electronic consulting company in Burlington. Her mother, who is also retired, was an English as a second language teacher at various schools in the Burlington Public Schools district.
This month, the groom, 33, is to start working in Alexandria, Va., as a program manager for the Federal Voting Assistance Program established by the Department of Defense. He also works as a sales clerk at the DC Homebrew Shop at the 3 Stars Brewing Company in Washington.
He graduated from University College, University of Toronto, and received a master’s degree in public policy and a master’s degree in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian studies from the University of Michigan.
He is a son of Anna S. Sweeney and Paul D. Sweeney of Chester, Conn. The groom’s mother is a lawyer in private practice in Chester. She is also an inland wetland compliance officer for the Town of Chester. His father is the owner and principal at Riverside Engineering, a company that provides consulting services for the crane, lifting and rigging equipment industries in New London, Conn.
The couple met through a mutual friend in 2009, while they were both in Tbilisi, Georgia. The groom was studying in Tbilisi on a Fulbright scholarship and the bride, who was a member of the Peace Corps, happened to be traveling there.
