NYFW is about to come an end, leaving us with an idea of what we’ll all be wearing next Spring. We’re predicting big pants, short shorts, and one bold color that’s much brighter than Millennial lavender. Scroll through for the the biggest trends from the Spring 2020 season thus far.
Editor’s note: The fashion flock will soon jet off to London, Milan, and Paris, so check back as we update our trend guide with more hot takes on style from the biggest names in fashion.
Waistcoats
Our relationship with the two-piece suit is turning into a ménage a trois with the resurrection of the classic waistcoat. Wear the vest alone (and to a formal event, à la Ralph Lauren), or with a full suit (and feel like a badass).
Hot Pants
Who wears short shorts? If you’re a Brandon Maxwell or Longchamp woman, you do. Set your expectations high and keep your inseams higher with the newest versions of hot pants that are so tiny they might qualify as underwear. Whether you choose a style in leather, satin, or denim, these shorties will make your legs go on for days, months, and even years.
Corsetry
Last season’s trend guide saw the beginning of a Renaissance love affair, but designers like Khaite are bringing corsets into the mix. Snatch that waist with sheer bodices, traditional boning, and more bustiers we can’t wait to wear next Spring.
White Suiting
A white suit can seem intimidating, but the versions seen at Deveaux (photographer Tommy Ton’s second foray behind a runway, not a camera), transition the monochrome set into daily wear. Alternatively, you can opt for a sleek silhouettes like at Jonathan Simkhai, Tory Burch, and Prabal Gurung.
Baggy Trousers
When designers aren’t thinking small—in terms of short shorts—they’re suggesting a super wide-legged pant for Spring. Test it in a trending cargo like we saw at Tibi, or go all out with Carolina Herrera’s tent-like trousers.
Mellow Yellow
It’s official: Yellow is the it-color of spring. And yes, we are positive, because every designer including Sies Marjan, Pyer Moss, and more presented runway looks in a range of marigolds and buttercups. As the symbolic color of happiness, it’ll be easy to introduce this sunny color into your Spring wardrobe.
