Ms. Raymond also offers vintage zodiac pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier and Lenfant, which she says are in demand and becoming harder to find.
“We get intense about the spiritualty and meaning of the jewelry, but a lot of people who buy the vintage zodiac pieces buy them for the design and beauty,” she said.
Including Constellations
Since some don’t want to flaunt their sign, designers also have reimagined the zodiac in creative ways that subtly depict the characteristics and constellations of each sign. Cece Jewellery in London, for instance, represented Aquarius (the water sign) with a custom-made signet decorated with a hand-painted enamel cloud, raindrops and hands catching the water, alongside a tiny version of the sign’s constellation ($3,537).
Jen Tran, a jeweler in Ann Arbor, Mich., whose company Millie & Noah creates only custom pieces, is creating a bracelet for a client with eight disks, carved from the same block of jade and decorated with the signs of the client’s daughter and her grandchildren as well as their constellations dotted in diamonds. The jade is being carved by a master artisan in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, which is known as a gemstone center.
Zodiaque, the latest zodiac series from Van Cleef & Arpels, tells a poetic astrological story in 12 dual-sided pendants. One side features hard stones, each selected to reflect the characteristics of the sign, including amazonite, malachite and aventurine, with animals and characters depicted in gold relief. On the reverse is the zodiac name, constellation and symbols in gold. Prices start at $2,130 for a small gold charm and go to $22,200 for the hard stone and gold pendants.
